Diana chose the latest Harry Potter book for her READ poster selection however, she admits that, “..I have not yet read the book…not one page. I’m saving it for the cold snowy days between Christmas and New Years to savor in front of a roaring fire with a large cup of hot cocoa!” At the moment, Diana is reading Justice by Laurie King and listening to The Bookwoman’s Last Fling by John Dunning. Each morning you can find her sipping her coffee and reading the comics in the Chicago Tribune. She also likes to prepare her holiday menus by browsing through the Betty Crocker Cook Book. At work she reads The Chronicle of Higher Learning.
Diana’s three favorite authors are Maeve Binchy, Anne McCaffrey and Mercedes Lackey. Her three favorite books are The Dragon Riders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, Wildflowers of Kane County by Dick Young, and any of the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. She especially enjoys reading books in the sci-fi/fantasy or mystery genre. Her favorite book to move is Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. As a child Diana’s favorite book was Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty and any other book on horses or dogs from the 1960’s.
Diana says this about recommended reading lists—“There are too many recommended reading lists! What I found after getting my PhD was that there was a treasure trove of books to discover. I wander the audio books section of my library and pick out titles that look interesting. I follow a few writers, but have been reading everything from old classics to new best sellers. I’d recommend picking out something very different every year just to see what’s out there!”
You can find most of these selections and more in the Bestseller and Mainstacks collections at the Harper Library!
